DUCTUS STORIES
With Curious Openness as a Compass
After completing his degree project in Karlstad, Jonathan Grundin moved to Skellefteå—drawn by real winters, proximity to nature, and the opportunity to stand more on his own and build new connections. Through his curious openness, he has grown into the role of system developer and is driven by making a difference, both for customers and colleagues. Here, he shares his journey and why he feels at home at Ductus.

Meet Jonathan
Name: Jonathan Grundin
Role: System Developer
Location: Skellefteå
Joined Ductus: 2023
Background: Bachelor of Science in Computer Engineering from Karlstad
Ever-evolving challenges
Jonathan describes the consultant role as something constantly in motion. Assignments shift, teams change, and challenges take new forms—exactly what he enjoys.
“My job as a consultant is to take on different assignments for various types of customers. It can vary a lot, but most often it involves some form of system development for their systems.”
As a consultant, he also appreciates the opportunity to gain insight into different organizations and see how systems are used in practice. During one assignment, he was able to follow parts of the customer’s work on site—something that gave him a deeper understanding of the context.
“It was really cool and interesting to gain a completely new understanding of how everything fits together.”
A day at work
The workday begins with coffee, a banana, and a quick check of his emails.
“At 09:00 I have my first meeting of the day with the customer’s development team. We review the status of the different projects and what needs to be done. Sometimes we also solve code issues together.”
The rest of the day varies. Sometimes there are meetings with different stakeholders at the customer, sometimes pair programming with the team is on the schedule. Other days mean more focus and individual coding with music in his headphones.
On Fridays, he summarizes what has been accomplished—a routine that makes it easier to start the weekend and return on Monday with clarity.
Making a difference
A major source of motivation for Jonathan is making a difference, both in customer projects and among colleagues.
“What gives me the most energy is when I feel that what I do makes a difference. It’s really fun to hear from the customer that they are happy with what I’ve done.”
Jonathan also cares about the office atmosphere and enjoys arranging activities that strengthen team spirit.
“I also get energy from hearing that colleagues appreciate it. I think it’s important that people enjoy their work and have fun.”
Openness and curiosity as a way of working
At the start of new assignments, Jonathan focuses on contributing energy and openness. For him, it’s about being present, listening, and daring to ask questions.
“I try to stay positive and cheerful, and not be afraid to ask questions.”
Curiosity is one of his greatest assets. It helps him understand the technology, the business, and how the team operates. When he encounters obstacles, his natural instinct is to turn to the team first.
“If I get stuck, I bring it up with the development team first. Otherwise, I ask someone at the office. There’s always someone willing to help.”
Right now, his interest in frontend development—especially within Blazor and .NET—is particularly useful. At the same time, he wants to keep challenging himself and learning more.
A supportive and positive work environment
When Jonathan describes Ductus, it becomes clear how important the culture is to him. The balance between work and personal life is not just something that is mentioned—it is reflected in how the company operates.
“Ductus has a ‘people first’ mindset. You can really feel it.”
He sees the culture as friendly and supportive. Colleagues step in for one another, support each other in projects, and are there when someone needs help. The positive tone creates a sense of security that enables growth.
“Overall, it’s a very friendly and positive environment at the office with truly great colleagues. I really like that.”
During his time at Ductus, he has grown both technically and personally. He has developed as an individual and trusts himself in a completely different way than when he came straight from university.
“I’ve improved my ability to take responsibility, collaborate in teams, and communicate clearly.”
Recharging to stay energized
To recharge, Jonathan trains strength several times a week. What started as a training period—his own little “gym arc”—has become an important routine for clearing his mind. He also enjoys gaming.
“I play the miniature game Warhammer 40K. It’s an unexpected interest that maybe not everyone knows about.”
The future
Jonathan looks forward to continuing to grow as a system developer and taking on more responsibility in projects. Learning new things and challenging himself is something he thrives on.
“I think the coming year will be both educational and really fun.”
Just as when he took the step north, he is drawn to continued development—the chance to grow, try new things, and build on what he has already learned. And that is exactly why Ductus feels like the right place for him.
