DUCTUS STORIES
Victor’s journey – from high school straight into software development
When Victor Forsgren finished high school, he faced a crossroads. University was tempting, but one evening he decided to take a different path. Instead of continuing his studies, he sent an application to Ductus and landed his first role as a software developer right away. Here, he shares his journey, what drives him at work, and why his colleagues mean everything.
Meet Victor
Name: Victor Forsgren
Role: Software Developer
Location: Luleå
Joined Ductus: 2022
Background: Self-taught in programming, joined Ductus straight after high school.
From high school to working life
For many, going to university after high school is the obvious choice – but not for Victor. He had always imagined that university would be his next step, most likely within programming, but one evening he made a different decision.
“I felt like I wanted to give it a shot right away. Programming had been my creative outlet during my teenage years, and I thought, why not see if I could land a job directly?”
He sent an application to Ductus, which at the time was still called BnearIT in Luleå. Shortly after, he was on board as a software developer.
The consultant life: solving problems with code
For someone unfamiliar with the industry, the consultant role might sound a little vague. Victor sums it up simply:
“Most of my job is about helping different companies solve problems, usually with the help of code.”
What excites him most is the variety. Consulting means exposure to different industries, clients, and assignments, which makes the work both diverse and rewarding. “It’s hard to find that kind of breadth anywhere else. Working with several different clients gives you a unique experience.”
Earning trust in new teams
Each new assignment means stepping into a new team and building fresh relationships. For Victor, it comes down to being curious, open, and willing to learn from day one.
“I always try to ask questions and really understand the bigger picture of what I’m working on. Taking initiative also goes a long way – it shows you truly want to contribute.”
His colleagues describe him as someone who brings energy, even when things get tough. “I think people would say that I try to keep the momentum going when energy starts to dip. That usually helps us move forward together.”
Finding purpose through impact
What motivates Victor most is the feeling that his work actually makes a difference. He describes the satisfaction of seeing the impact of code beyond the screen.
“A single line of code can actually affect countless people. That’s something I find fascinating. Compare it to someone building chairs – there’s only so many you can make in a day. With software, the possibilities are completely different.”
It’s this sense of creating real-world impact that gives him the most energy at work.
“I love when it feels like what I’m doing has an effect in the real world.”
Growing with Ductus
Even though technology and problem-solving drew Victor into the industry, it’s the people who make him thrive at Ductus.
“I’ve had the chance to meet so many incredible people here. Without a doubt, it’s the colleagues I work with every day that I appreciate the most.”
He describes the culture as open and warm, with everyday life shaped by collaboration and support. “I’ve become a more open person since I started here, and I’ve gained more confidence in what I can actually do.”
Creativity outside the office
When the workday ends, Victor finds another creative outlet – this time through music.
“I recently started trying to make music. Mostly it’s led me to the realization that I’m probably pretty tone-deaf – but it’s fun anyway!”
