WOMEN IN TECH
Meet Lisa, who made the leap from UI/UX to software development

Lisa Wedin had never planned to become a developer. But after getting a close look at what programming actually involves, she made a decision—she enrolled in a program in the middle of the pandemic and changed careers. Today, she works as a software developer at Ductus and leads an assignment that could transform how an entire government agency operates.
The path into tech
Lisa grew up surrounded by computers and developed digital skills early on, but it wasn’t until adulthood that she discovered programming. As a UI/UX designer at a product company, she worked closely with developers and, for the first time, gained a clear understanding of what the role really entails.
During the pandemic, she decided to take the leap. She enrolled in a program and changed direction. Today, she enjoys working as a software developer and appreciates both the teamwork and the process of seeing solutions take shape.
– It’s exciting to see how something goes from an idea to a complex system.
My workday
Lisa is currently a frontend lead in her assignment—and that’s no small responsibility. The work involves digitalizing and rethinking processes within a large public organization.
– My project is the starting point for what could become a complete transformation of an entire government agency, and it feels great to be part of making a real difference. Both in terms of digitalization and in daring to challenge established ways of working.

What drives me
Lisa thrives when she can take ownership and stand behind her decisions. That’s when she feels she grows the most.
– Being responsible in my current assignment is helping me grow tremendously—both in finding confidence in the decisions I make and in being able to explain them to both the team and the client. It pushes me to do better research and gives me a stronger sense of professional pride.
Team spirit and culture
As a frontend lead, Lisa has a clear ambition: she wants her team to feel safe and supported. For her, that’s just as important as the technical delivery.
– My strength is bringing positivity and creating a sense of psychological safety, combined with a strong drive to deliver a well-thought-out and solid product.
Advice to other women
Lisa wants to challenge the idea that you need the “perfect” background to enter the tech industry. Her advice is not to focus too much on job requirements, but instead start from what you find interesting and motivating.
Do you enjoy planning and connecting with people? Then roles like project manager or scrum master might suit you. Dreaming of building games? C# and .NET can open doors both to the gaming industry and to tech more broadly.
– Find a path into tech that feels fun and stimulating. Many skills and interests can be transferred into different areas of the IT industry.
When I’m not working…
When Lisa needs to recharge, she prefers to disconnect from the digital world.
– I go to my family’s cabin near the mountains, where there’s barely any phone signal and no running water, by a lake in the forest. It doesn’t get more peaceful than that.
