How did you become interested in tech?
As a kid I played a lot of video games, but it was never my intention to work with tech, even though my mum does, and she was encouraging me to follow the same path as her. I was more interested in psychology. It wasn’t until I did a tech course at school that my interest was piqued. At university I studied psychology, UX design and IT studies as part of a civil engineering degree – and IT came out the winner.
How long have you been working with tech?
I graduated from Umeå University in 2022 just as things were opening up after Covid. My first role was at Tietoevry in my hometown of Luleå, where I worked on 5G technology for Ericsson. After two years, I wanted to try something different, so I joined Ductus and have been here since.
What does a typical day at work involve?
At the moment, I’m working in a team that is developing a Manufacturing Execution System (MES) for an automotive company. There’s a lot of problem-solving in the day-to-day coding, as well as meetings with the client and the Ductus team. Typically, we code in C++, Python and Angular.
What’s most interesting about your job?
I’ve always loved problem-solving and today, that’s the most fun part of my job. In particular, I enjoy finding great solutions to many small problems. I also enjoy interacting in our team as we really help each other to succeed as well as having fun together.
You’ve received an Addher Award for Superstar of the Year in Luleå. How does that feel?
I was thrilled just to be nominated. Ida Ek, our Client Relations Manager and Consulting Manager, wrote such a flattering description of my role and contribution to the organization. I felt really appreciated at Ductus and then to actually go on and win the award for the region was fantastic. I’m very proud.
What advice would you give to somebody interested in pursuing a career like yours?
Go for it. IT is such a broad field today that there’s pretty much something for everyone. I love coding and the challenges that it offers – but not everyone does. But within IT you can be a project manager, work with UX-design, you name it. My advice, explore the opportunities and pick what is best for you.
What do you do when you’re not crunching code?
In the winter I really enjoy downhill skiing, and I am always looking forward to the snow. The rest of the year I spend as much time as I can with friends and family, playing board games, going on adventures or simply chatting over coffee.
